Development 14-18 years old League

If you are registered on a 2024 club team you cannot register for this league.

The League emphasizes punctuality, fairness, and a focus on developing teamwork skills. Athletes should arrive 15 minutes early for their set time to ensure readiness. Teams consist of nine players, six on the court and three subs, with fair play and equal participation.

The goal is to foster leadership, teamwork, and skill development. Athletes not on club teams are eligible, promoting inclusivity. Sessions run on Fridays from 7:30 to 9:30 pm divided into 6 -15 minutes games for 14-18 age group athletes. Each of the six games will have the athletes playing a different starting position and group of athletes.

Age determination is based on January 12th. The league discourages changing age groups. The emphasis is on challenging oneself and elevating teammates. A royalty of the court is crowned based on points earned over 12 weeks. (3 points for a win, 1 point for tie, and no points for a lost.)

Missing a week means no points, and refunds aren't provided to cover costs. The pilot project aims for affordability, using a familiar venue on Friday. The focus is on creating a positive and developmental environment for all participants.

Athletes should bring a warm-up volleyball and keep track of their shoes and equipment as they will be moving to a different court every 15 minutes. No points or refunds will be given for any missed Friday games.

Games will occur every Friday from January 12 until March 29th. (12 fridays). There is only spots for 35 athletes.

The developmental league is crafted to foster peer learning and replace the informal pickup games of the past. It operates on the principles of discovery learning, allowing students to shape the content and pace of their learning actively. This approach, rooted in inquiry and self-direction, aims to cultivate self-reliance, independence, and creativity.
In line with the tenets of discovery learning, the league refrains from direct instruction during games. Instead, players are encouraged to induce theory and skills from the dynamic environment, promoting experiential learning.
We understand that this approach may differ from traditional coaching models, and we believe that the chance to play the game itself is what developmental players need most at this stage. For those seeking more instructional sessions, our academy offers regular sessions geared towards skill development.
We value your feedback and hope that the unique experience our developmental league provides aligns with your expectations. Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or concerns.
The league is not an instructional session. All the other sessions at the academy are instructional. Our goal is not to confuse the too. The short coming we are identifying is the total lack of peer learning and self discovery learning, My physical education degrees are both focussed on discovery learning, and I believe we are going to see a change in the development of the athletes as they become more comfortable in the non-instruction environment we are piloting in the league format. I am hesitant to change this as all my 4 years of theory on discovery learning, makes me feel that we should see a change in the child’s approach as the weeks go by. If you do not then we will try another approach and then your suggestion might be the way to go. Discovery learning, promotes, confidence, independence and self learning which the majority of our athlete do not bring to our normal coach guided learning. Anyways keep sending your suggestions as it is the way we need to grow and develop our academy.

At
First I was
Disappointed that there was no “teaching
Skills” but my kid had fun and improved throughout the sessions.
I do think the young people “reffing”
Could be more enthusiastic and explain to kids why the whistle was blown to learn the rules.

I wish the summer session was not on Friday nights for girls bc if it was a weekday we would join again.
